Covert ops

by The Oven

Missus picked me up for our phone date, and we went and parked behind a bank. It’s not like we could have this speakerphone conversation just anywhere, so we picked a low traffic area that had good reception. The phone rang at 12:04.  He’s pretty good on timing, especially since we had agreed that the phone time would be “noon-ish.” When we answered, neither of us even knew what to say.

“Um, yes, hello. I can’t wait to put your sperm in my vagina.”

That would be awkward. So we talked about the weather. And I definitely wasn’t thinking about the weather. And then Missus talked about her head injury. Niiice. I am sure the guy thinks we are crack-pots. But we had a nice conversation, and asked a complete stranger questions I never thought I would ask another human being, much less a complete stranger. For example: How much “product” can we expect from you? How often can we expect it?

After we got over the initial awkwardness, the conversation really flowed, which made me feel more at ease. We talked about the contract, which I wanted to make a couple of changes to, just to be sure that we will get a second parent adoption in place for Missus, and he was totally cool about that. We asked some questions, he asked us some questions; All in all, we are still feeling really good about Seth.

The next step is a face-to-face meeting. Noon again tomorrow. I feel like a gunslinger with all of this “high-noon” stuff…. We are meeting at a top-secret restaurant where we don’t expect there to be a lot of crowds. I’ve never actually eaten there, but it’s a locally owned establishment and a heck of a lot better than telling her/him that we met the donor for the first time at Taco Bell (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

I am thinking about wearing big black sunglasses and a headscarf or the meeting tomorrow. Maybe have a little fun with the secret meeting.  I definitely have to make sure I look good. We’ve gotta impress this guy, that’s for sure. Otherwise he could hold back the goods, and I don’t want that.

It all starts in 2 hours, 21 minutes

by The Oven

Three other people in the world know what we are up to, and we are about to meet one of them for the first time. Well, we aren’t actually going to meet yet, we are just going to talk on the phone. At noon. In two hours and 21, well now it’s 19, minutes.

Missus and I are going to try to get pregnant. Yup, not exactly earth shattering news, I realize.  Until you realize that I am also the Missus.  We are a lesbian couple, and we are ready (or at least, kinda ready) to start our family.

We have found a sperm donor, Seth, who we don’t know, but he seems like a nice enough guy. He’s calling at noon-ish today, so I am a mix of nerves, excitement, and little tiny butterflies in my stomach.

I will be the one getting pregnant. It wasn’t a hard decision, I am younger than Missus, and also have a good clean bill of health, not something that we are sure about her, since she has anemia and tends to get malnourished. Looking at me, you would think I was born to breed, and if my sister and her two beautiful babies are any indication, I will make some preeeety darn cute babies.

I have no idea what we are doing, but we are going to try to make this as much like getting “knocked up” as can happen for two ladies. Which really just means, we are going to jump in with both feet, and hang-on for the ride.

Are you nervous? Do we sound a little reckless? Don’t worry, we are both college graduates with full time jobs and a business that is starting to take off. We live in a cute house and have reliable transportation and health insurance. We also have dogs and cats and a pet bird, all of which we love very much, and even manage to feed every day.  It’s not like we are 16 years old and really not ready for this.  I guess we realized that if we just sit around and wait for everything in life to be absolutely perfect before we start trying to get pregnant, it may never happen. So, even though the yard could use some landscaping, and I am not exactly sure where I will put the home office when the baby comes, and there are a million things we could be doing to get ready, we are just going to do this.  We are going to try to have a baby.

And I’m going to ovulate next week, so it could be happening fast.
